Sue and Helen’s story
Sue Crick, 74, and Helen Bell, 77, discovered Green Patch during lockdown, attending one of the outdoor yoga classes. The two friends have since become volunteers, and one of their highlights is the wellbeing walks along the brook behind Green Patch.
Sue: “Green Patch is all about giving something back to the community. Once you walk through the gates, it feels like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders and you aren’t judged. On Tuesdays, we come in at 10 o’clock and see the list of jobs for that day. We have both struggled with ill-health and challenges over the past few years, but our days of volunteering give us a stronger and most positive outlook and sense of wellbeing.”
Helen: “We take part in litter picking, wellness walks, yoga with our instructor Ashok and even some cooking, all free of charge. Once a month, Ashok makes us all a curry with lots of herbs to support our health. We nominated Green Patch to the Kettering and District Rambling Club, and they were awarded £450. We are so glad other community groups see the value of Green Patch – it really is so special.”
